I have always wanted to make a positive change in the world. As a young girl growing up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I had parents who emphasized the value of education and the pursuit of excellence, for which I am deeply grateful.
I am the eldest child and I have a younger sister and brother, whom I love dearly.
My mother had dreams of becoming a lawyer when she met my father but never realized her dream of studying law after she got married and had me. I inherited her law books and I read a lot of them as a teenager.
Going to law school seemed like a natural progression.
I finished top of my class as an undergraduate and was awarded the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship to study for my Masters at the University of Cambridge. I had my first intellectual property class with William Cornish there.
I then worked with the Malaysian government on its version of Silicon Valley, developing laws related to intellectual property and the digital world after graduating from Cambridge. At that point, I developed a real interest in economics and business, and at the encouragement of a mentor, Vincent Lowe, applied for the Fulbright Scholarship.
And I got it! But I did not get to pursue economics or business. I ended up back in law school at Stanford, which I truly loved.
But who doesn't love Stanford, right? I even chose to get married there!
With the help and encouragement of two of my beloved mentors at Stanford, Paul Goldstein and Deborah Rhode, I pursued a career in academia and developed an expertise in intellectual property law, law and economics, legal theory, and moral psychology over the years.
But when the heart calls, it calls.
I am still deeply drawn to making a positive change in the world. Not ONLY through teaching, research, scholarship or by writing books about intellectual property law, even though I love doing these things.
But I ALSO want to follow my heart to making that change in the world through engagement with each one of you who comes across this site and encouraging you to build and bring your ideas into the world and be a heart-centered leader.
Because after more than 20 years studying, researching, and teaching intellectual property law, I am deeply convinced that bringing forth our ideas in a heart-centered way will change the world for the better.
Nothing ever has but great ideas. And now that I am a mom, I feel even more strongly that I owe this little girl in the picture, my daughter, and everyone who comes after me just that. A better world.
My business is all about making that change in the world.
Which leads me to YOU.
I know you have ideas and dreams of your own, ideas and dreams that make you who you uniquely are.
I also know that it is very easy to give in to fear, stress, and overwhelm in your busy life and bury those dreams and ideas while you focus on other priorities.
I'm here to serve you through my work in intellectual property (and all my other work that came from that focus) in over 20 years and through hard-learnt (and many times painful) lessons in life, business, and leadership along the way to help you uncover and reconnect with those ideas and dreams again without necessarily shifting your priorities.
I truly believe that we make the world a better place when we show up with our ideas where we are meant to show up and make decisions from positions of leadership in a heart-centered way.
My sincere hope is that through my free content, paid online training programs, and any other support I can offer, you will be able to find YOUR place of strength, dignity, and wisdom in your busy professional life, SHOW-UP with ideas and dreams that can make a difference, all while MAKING DECISIONS and LEADING from a heart-centered place.
I am committed to helping you achieve the unique vision you see for the world, reach the causes you care about, and be the good you wish to see.
Whether you have ideas that you would like to bring forth into the world or need to cultivate skills and tenacity to show-up and lead in a heart-centered way, I will do my best to empower you so that you can make the difference you intend to make in the world with authenticity, courage, and love.
Because our ideas can change the world.
